Yuen Wo Ping teams with Marvel!

Posted by Jason Triplett

Famed action choreographer Yuen Wo Ping is teaming up with Marvel Comics to bring the obscure comic "The Hands of Shang Chi" to the big screen. Set to begin shooting this fall, and hit theaters by fall of 2007, this film will mark master Yuen's true return from film directing retirement. The film will be executive produced by Ang Lee, and released by Dreamworks.

So who will play Shang Chi? Well, neither Yuen or Marvel are talking, but word is that both Tony Jaa and Jing "Jackie" Wu are in the running for the role.

Yuen will immediately follow this project up with "Snow and the Seven", a Chinese retelling of the Snow White fairy tale in which 7 buddhist monks find a young girl.

PS3 Controller to be called the P oo S? Or is it a hoax?

Posted by Jason Triplett

A rumor has been circulating the net over the last couple of days claiming that Sony intends to name their new version of the Dual Shock controller the "P oo S". However, our investigation has incovered some facts that may prove this is not true. First, and most importantly, no major news media has been released nor even acknowledges this claim. Secondly, and almost equally as important, there are no public records of any registered copyright or trademark from Sony regarding the name "P oo S" or any variation of it.

Why would Sony name their controller the "P oo S", which in the words of Mr. Pink himself, sounds an awful lot like pussy? Maybe it's my dirty mind, but that's what comes to my mind when I look at it or verbalize it. Pussy.

Do you think Sony would subject themselves to countless Pussy jokes? No way they would allow that to happen. They are in bad enough shape as it is, with the first line of Blu-ray movies getting horrible reviews from critics, reports of defective lasers in current Blu-ray players, and of course their complete fuck-up at E3. I call bullshit on the whole "P oo S" thing, and until the world sees some SOLID proof that this is true, we should all treat it as pure rumor.

Age of Conan enters Beta phase 1!

Posted by Jason Triplett

The highly anticipated MMORPG from Funcom, Age of Conan, went into beta status as of today. However, would be testers shouldn't get too excited. Beta phase 1 will only consist of Funcom employees and a few select professional testers. This is what is usually done during an Alpha test, so I'm not sure what's going on here. The game is expected to hit shelves this fall, so they had better pick up the pace...or else we may not see this game on shelves until next year.

DMX leaves Def Jam for Sony, fueds with Jay-Z.

Posted by Jason Triplett

Rapper/Actor DMX recently announced that his next CD release will not be on Def Jam Records as previously thought. Instead, DMX has signed a new deal with his old record company Sony, who plans to release at least the next 3 DMX albums.

When D was asked why he made the sudden change, he said "I can't work under him (speaking of former best friend Jay-Z) anymore. I have nothing against the label itself, I just can't work under him." DMX didn't leave alone. He took with him the awesome beat makers Swizz Beatz as well as his Ruff Ryders entourage.

Could this be the start of a feud between the former friends? Could this be a ploy to pull Jay-Z back out of retirement? Time will only tell.

As part of the deal, Sony got DMX's already finished album entitled "Here We Go Again", but had to almost entirely reproduce it track for track. It has even been renamed "Year of the Dog Again".

DMX's former official site http://www.defjam.com/dmx/ has been removed, as has any other mention of the artist from the site. The new site is up and running, http://www.dmx-official.com.

DMX's "Year of the Dog Again" was due out last June under the old title, but is now coming this August under the new title. Stay tuned for more on this story!

Rated-m eon8 investigtion part 2!

Posted by Jason Triplett

Earlier we brought you the story of the mysterious website http://www.eon8.com. We discovered things involving mutated genes and linear propulsion. You can find the original article below:

Well with about 8 hours left on the countdown, we have uncovered some more disturbing things concerning eon8. The first thing we noticed is the main logo on the site just says plain "E8".

The above link describes the false matimatical process knows as E8.

The wiki for the e8 matimatical process.

Another interesting link we found when removing the "on" from eon8.

When visiting eon8 from an extrernal site you get the ES-12 verification error. ES-12 to do with mental health?

Or perhaps ES-12 has more to do with genomes again?

The timer ticks down, 8 hours remain. We have uncovered two seperate genome codes within the website, as well as some strange technology and matimatical references. What could this be? Stay tuned, as we will bring you more on this is it breaks!

Rumor: Young Buck to drop new album In October

What is eon8? An in-depth look!

Posted by Jason Triplett

The mysterious website http://www.eon8.com has hit the net with sweeping force...but what the fuck is it? Is it a viral ad campaign? An alternate reality game? Countdown to the end of the world? We did some investigating and came up with some interesting stuff.

This link explains what eon8 is, though I can't make much out of it.

http://bioinformatics-blat.ccr.buffalo.edu/cgi-bin/hgc?hgsid=461&o=3101587&t=3177272&g=mrna&i=X13600&c=chrX&l=0&r=22224390&db=dm2&pix=620 Upon searching for x21-b, I discovered this website, explaining that it is a type of gene, specifically a deformed one.

Found this one while looking for x13600.

Perhaps the most interesting find, this came up when looking for Z-Theta9.

Hmm. Computer components? Genome deformity? Linear Propulsion? We aren't the only one's discovering things either. The guys over at http://eon8theinvestigation.ytmnd.com/ have found out some strange things as well.

So what could this be? Halo 3 viral ad? Another ARG? The readers at http://www.4815162342.com/forum/index.php are very familiar with this sort of stuff with the Lost ARG, and it was originally thought this was yet another piece of that show's ARG.

At any rate, the timer keeps ticking, 16 hours remain. Stay tuned for more news on this as it breaks!

XBOX Live Marketplace updated with new demo and more!

Posted by Jason Triplett

XBOX Live's Marketplace has received a huge update, including a new demo. The demo, Top Spin 2: Wimbledon, is the second demo released for the popular bargain title. Also added in the huge update were a Chromehounds theme w/ gamerpics, Chromehounds videos, N3 videos, Call of Duty 2 maps, and a few other items.

We also have word that the next Marketplace update is coming by the second week of July, with the addition of Street Fighter II to the Live Arcade, as well as a few other items from the leaked list we posted earlier. There is a good chance that the Chromehounds US demo and the Prey demo will make their appearance in this update. There is also a chance the Over G Fighters demo will be ready as well.

Slated for August are demos for N3, NCAA Footbal 07, Saint's Row and Dead Rising. It is likely that the Madden 07 demo won't "make the cut" until mid-september, but there is a good chance at a multiplayer feature in the demo.

Transformers done Michael Bay style! (YES we have the controversial photo)

Rated-M.com and the future.

Posted by Jason Triplett

I have been in web development for many years. This is my first project in a while, my first major project since UDCW.net, once the second most popular independant Dreamcast site on the net. I have been getting feedback from across the information super-highway about the new site, and the general concensus is that the "blog" layout has to go...or be added onto.

I agree wholeheartedly. I love the "blog" style of feeding you all your daily news, but I am currently working on a way to blend this style with the classic internet gaming site with reviews, previews, photos, etc.

A full design change is in the works, so stay tuned! There are great things ahead for Rated-M.com!

Final Fantasy XII hits stores on Halloween!

Posted by Jason Triplett

Gamespot.com reports that Square/Enix intends to release Final Fantasy XII for the Playstation 2 on October 31st, "All Hallow's Eve". We can only speculate that they picked this date so that gamers would actually PLAY this game before the PS3 hits shelves. Indeed, this is one of the last great titles slated for release on Sony's successful console.

I have played this game, and I love it. SE is one of the premiere developers in the world, and it's good to see them still have support for the older consoles. Square is sending the PS2 off proper with both FFXII and FFVII: Dirge Of Cerberus.

However, with the Nintendo Wii launching at the begining of October, Square may give themselves a run fortheir money with the new Crystal Chronicles and Dragon Quest games for the Wii launch.

Also slated for release around FFXII is the FFIII remake and Dragon Warrior Monsters for the Nintendo DS, as well as a pristine port of the original Final Fantasy to cell phones world-wide! It seems that no matter what system you own, Square/Enix is the company reaping the rewards!

Chameleon snake just discovered and already threatened?

Posted by Jason Triplett

Why is there an animal story on this entertainment website? Well I am an animal lover and activist in my personal life, so you better believe I am going to share stories I feel to be important on this matter. Our species has been especially cruel to animal kind, so if there is anything I can do to help those without a voice, I am gonna do it.

Anyways, on to the story. Scientists with the World Wildlife Foundation (yes the guys that sued Vince McMahon over the WWF name) recently discovered a new species of snake on the island of Borneo. Now this isn't uncommon, as Borneo is home to a lot of newly discovered species. However, what makes this snake unusual is it's ability to change colors on the fly. It is the only snake known to have this ability.

Even though this snake was just discovered, WWF reports that it's habitat is already threatened by the rapid deforestation of Borneo. For more on this story, check the links below.

Blade the Series premieres tonight!

Posted by Jason Triplett

Now I know what you all are thinking...Blade the Series? WTF? Well I felt that way too, but initial critical impressions have actually been very good. Whether or not the show is any good or not depends on you...the fans.

Rapper gone actor Sticky Fingaz, from the rap group Onyx, plays the title role. Sticky is a hell of an actor, and I'm sure he will fit in just fine. The show's producers have promised that the show will not be a watered down version of the movies, but instead will channel the raw action and attitude of the films.

The show premieres tonight at 10pm (9 central) on the Spike TV network.

Also, for more on the show, and on Sticky Fingaz, check out the below interview IGN recently did.

Square/Enix rumors abound!

Posted by Jason Triplett

A source inside Square/Enix let slip a few interesting tidbits in a recent official forum post that was quickly deleted. Many things were mentioned, from FF7 to Kingdom Hearts to a new fighting game series.

Let's start with FF7. He stated the remake would not happen for PS3, the tech demo was just that. This is no big surprise, since Square has said that numerous times publicly. However, he did mention FF7 was making some new appearances on consoles. The original game would be available for download via Sony's marketplace in "episodes". These episodes could be transfered to the PSP. He also mentioned that FF7 is being considered for a Nintendo DS port. Square Loves the little handheld that could, and hope to begin work on this port soon.

We aren't done with FF7 just yet... He went on to talk about Square pictures. Apparently a second FF7 film is in the works from Square pictures, with a 2009 target date.

This same topic brought up Kingdom Hearts. Disney is interested in doing a KH film, and has approached Square about doing it. Square Pictures is tied up doing the cutscenes for FFXIII and the new FF7 film, so they declined. However, he reported that Square gave the go ahead to Disney to begin production on the project. Whether Disney's in house animation company or Pixar will make the film is still unclear.

One last thing he talked about was the blending of properties. Since the Square/Enix merge, they have talked about merging FF with the DW/DQ series. Well according to the source, they are doing just that, but in a fighting game series to hit all consoles and both 3D handhelds. The series would feature key characters from most FF games and some characters from the Dragon Warrior series as well. No word on any other SE characters making an appearance, nor when this game would even be available.

I would like to note that Rated-M could not independantly confirm any of this, but it sure seems like hot info, especially since Square removed the post within an hour of it being posted. We will get more info on this story to you as it breaks!

GRAW 360 gets new content!

Posted by Jason Triplett

GRAW Chapter 2 is out now on the XBL marketplace. There is a crap load of content included, like 4 new maps, some old maps with new tim of day, five new weapons, and more camo and soldier skins.

The pack costs a whopping 1200 points, or $15 in real money, making it the most expensive single download since the pay for content thing started way back on the first XB. If you are a fan of GRAW, and have $15 to spend and almost 1GB free on your hard drive, then this is for you!

Who is Iron Man?

Posted by Jason Triplett

Variety reports that Marvel has set a May 2nd, 2008 release for their upcoming film Iron Man, to be directed by Jon Favreau. However, no one has any idea as to who is going to play the hero. The forums at imdb.com are on fire with speculation, but at this point, not even the director or writers have any clue as to who is going to be Tony Stark.

360 gets the shaft on Prey demo, 3D Realms speaks!

Posted by Jason Triplett

In a shocking (not really that shocking) turn of events, 360 owners eager to play tonight's release of the long awaited Prey demo logged into XBL to find...nothing. The demo was a no show. Forums across the net are on FIRE behind this.

Well 3D Realms felt they had to speak on this matter, addressing it in their official forums. George Broussard had this to say:

"We do not want 360 people waiting up for the demo or having false expectations. The 360 demo will not appear on Marketplace tonight.I'm still waiting for specifcs, but I'm being told that it's still in testing at Microsoft. From what I understand this isn't Microsoft's fault, and is more likely just an issue of timing.I'm hesitant to give any estimates for a release, but I've been told it should be reasonably soon after the pc release, but could be as long as a few days.We will post an update as soon as we have more solid information."

He went on to say:

"It's not Microsoft's fault. They aren't gay. Really."

I lol'd at that last part a dozen times now...

Anyways, for tthe entire thread, and further correspondance from Mr. Broussard himself, check the link below.

XB360 demo news!

Posted by Jason Triplett

Word is quickly spreading around the net that the next issue of the Official XBOX Magazine will include demos of Dead Rising and Saint's Row, two highly anticipated games for the XBOX 360. We could not independantly confirm these reports, but with both games coming out within the next 2 months, we think this is actually a believable claim.

Dead Rising demo w/ XBL support = good
GamerPic of Brangelina's baby = bad
Saint's Row demo w/ XBL support = good
Brokeback Mountian 360 dasboard theme = bad

let's hope for the good in this case!

MP3.com back to supporting indie artists!

Posted by Jason Triplett

It has been awhile since the meteoric fall of MP3.com, one of my picks for website of the decade...hell century. MP3.com got raped by the music industry for posting music downloads, and while the artists who had actually already made it big were happy, thousands of indies hoping for their shot at stardom were screwed.

MP3.com was once the hub for indie music, launching careers based on popularity. Drowning Pool for example, was an MP3.com member before their big break, and they attribute their Mp3.com fanbase to their eventual success. The power of the people is what can make or break an artist...and that forum was gone...but not forever.

MP3.com is currently Beta Testing their new personal artist page program, in which any average Joe with half a lick of talent (or none at all) can post their work for the world to see and vote on. MP3.com is on it's way back...it took forever, but it seems tht this site isn't going anywhere anytime soon!

Busta Rhymes kicks the Dixie Chicks' asses!

Posted by Jason Triplett

The numbers are in. Fans of rap or people who just hate country, rejoice! Busta Rhymes' new album "The Big Bang" has dethroned the bitch trio, taking his first ever number one debut spot. The previous number one holders, Dixie Chick (heartwarmingly referred to around my town as "Chicks with Dicks"), were also dethroned by the new AFI album, though AFI didn't have the staying power to hold the number one spot.

The Dixie Chicks still hold the number two spot, and are still number one on the country charts.

Nintendo Wii to launch October 2nd?

Posted by Jason Triplett

Recently, GameStop added Wii games into their system with release dates. One date pops up quite a few times throughout, Oct. 2nd.

A few days later, GameStop moved several key titles from the 360 list to the same date. Some of the titles are Forza 2, Viva Pinata, and Gears of War. These games had previously been placed against the PS3 launch. Microsoft stated during and after E3 that they weren't intimidated by the PS3's launch line-up, but were quick to complement Nintendo.

Speculation is that Microsoft moved their big fall titles up to face the Wii launch, showing that they aren't concerned a bit with Sony's launch. If this is true, this would place the Wii release date on October 2nd, 2006. Rated-M is keeping tabs on this story and we will post more as it develops.

Star Wars Galaxies turns 3!

Posted by Jason Triplett

Sony is celebrating 3 years of service in their once popular MMO Star Wars Galaxies. During the celebration, all players will receive an instant travel ship for each character on their account. Veteran players will also receive more house storage space.

Also during the celebration, numerous player and GM run events will be going on across all servers. One of these events actually sounds cool:

"Party with Max Rebo and His Band!

Come celebrate the 3rd Anniversary of Star Wars Galaxies with Max Rebo and special guests on the roof of the Lucky Despot Cantina in Mos Eisley!

Max and his band will be performing continuously from Thursday June 22nd through Wednesday June 28th, so stop by any time to see the most famous band in the galaxy! Big crowds are expected during the peak hours of 6 to 10pm PST (GMT for European servers), so plan accordingly."

Unfortunately, the servers are still empty in contrast to the past, and the only thing that will bring the people back is pre-cu servers. SOE stands by their claim that the game is fine, and will never bring back pre-cu servers.

For more info on the celebrations, check out the official website http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/

Acclaim reborn or doomed to fail?

Posted by Jason Triplett

Acclaim Games, formally disbanded and out of business, was reborn recently when the company was purchased by an aspiring new team. Once holding such liscenses as WWE Wrestling and Turok, Acclaim now focuses on free online games.

One game, BOTS, allows you to create your own robot and fight it against other players' creations online. Their other major project, 9Dragons is a localization of an asian free MMO. One could wonder how localizing free MMO's to the states and Euro crowd could be lucrative by any means. I guess we will just have to wait and see what the future holds for Acclaim. One thing is for sure, I am very happy to see the company back.

For more info on Acclaim, check out http://www.acclaim.com

Halo joins the Marvel Universe!

Posted by Jason Triplett

It has been announced for a while that Bungie and Marvel were teaming to do a graphic novel. A teaser comic priced for $.99 hit shelves May 31st letting fans know what to expect. Early impressions are that this is gonna be one hell of a comic, Halo fan or not. Buzz is currently so good that Marvel intends on making Halo a recurring monthly series. You can also expect Marvel to do the official comic adaptation of the Halo movie, due out in 07.

Despite people like myself who are excited about this series, there are some naysayers. There really hasn't been a successful comic adaptation of a game so far, and while Halo does have it's fan base, a lot of people really dont like the series. Love it or hate it, the series is a force to be reckoned with. The word Halo invokes something in gamers...let's hope that same feeling carries over to the page.

No PS3 pre-orders until October?

Posted by Jason Triplett

Sony's claims to have a fairly supplied launch for PS3 may be refuted by the very retailers carrying their products. Many retailers have been informed by Sony that their launch day numbers would be between 5-10 systems per store nationwide, thus forcing a decision to not do any pre-sale of the system until mid-October. GameStop, EB Games, GameCrazy and a few other retailers are following these guidelines. Retailers like Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Target have opted not to do a pre-sale at all. FYE is the only retail chain I have come across that is actually taking pre-orders, however you can bet there will be a back-log of reservations and a hefty waiting period.

What does this mean for the average gamer? Well quite simply your chances of getting a PS3 this winter (if you can afford it that is) are very slim. I recommend staying in touch with retailers so you can jump on the pre-orders when they first start...or you can do like I am and wait until tax season. My winter system will be the Wii, and I will probably be joined by many many gamers who wanted a PS3 but couldn't find a store with one. If you actually manage to get a PS3 at launch, make sure to buy the warranty. Sony has released buggy systems twice over already culminating in redesign and/or class-action lawsuit. Who's to say they won't do it again?

Backwards sensibility about backwards compatibility

Posted by Jason Triplett

Peter Moore recently announced that backwards compatibility was not a major concern of the 360 team at this time and that "not every XBOX game will be backwards compatible". This of course goes back on their original promise.

The state of backwards compatibility is such that Barbie: Horse Adventure is supported but games like Morrowind, Midtown Madness 3, Panzer Dragoon, Shenmue 2, and a slew of other more popular titles are not supported. When asked why this had happened, they claimed that games like Barbie showed up because they shared a game engine with another game they ported.

Sounds to me like they are just making excuses. Bottom line...backwards compatibility was an advertised feature, and if they were to discontinue that aspect of the system, it would show a bit about how well they keep their promises. If you think this is bullshit, please point your browsers to the http://www.xbox.com website and tell them how you feel.

Gay Batgirl WTF?

Posted by Jason Triplett

DC Comics recently announced that they would be bringing back their retired superheroine Batgirl. However, there is a twist. DC decided to brink her back as a LESBIAN. Yeah, you heard it right. Now normally I wouldn't care, but this is a blatent attempt to appeal to the horny 13 year old male demographic, the same demographic that once made comics king.

DC Comics would have you believe that they are in fact trying to appeal to the gay crowd, but if that were true why not put in a gay male on male couple? Simple, no one wants to see a couple of dudes making out. It's fucking gross. But what guy wouldn't want to see a couple of chicks go at it?

Case in point. At any rate, I wouldn't read the comic either way. Far better books out there to get into.

Microsoft & Rockstar

Posted by Jason Triplett

Rumors have been long-standing that Microsoft was trying to buy Rockstar. We here at Rated-M think that has finally happened. Anyone who was watching G4TV's coverage of E3 2006 saw Peter Moore show off his nice GTA tattoo at the press conference. He had mentioned that GTA would launch on the 360 first with exclusive episodic content.

The very next day, Peter Moore sat down for an interview to announce that just minutes prior to the interview, he had signed a deal of exclusivity with Rockstar so that GTA would be and I quote "ONLY ON 360". When asked how he managed to steal such a big title away from Sony, he replied that Rockstar knew what they were doing, they were "good businessmen".

So after that, there has been no further mention of it, and all 3 companies involved have declined comment. Recently, Take-Two, current known owners of Rockstar, spoke of their next-gen line-up, but Rockstar was strangely not mentioned once. Take-Two has had some money problems, despite having strong titles for PS2 and the XBOX systems. The loss of the NFL license to EA, the Hot Coffee fiasco with GTA, and the fire at their New York offices contributed to this.

Speculation is that Take-Two sold Rockstar to MS to save themselves from their money issues. MS gets GTA, Take-Two is free of the negative publicity and controversy. I wouldn't be surprised if we see an official announcment real soon.
