Square/Enix rumors abound!

A source inside Square/Enix let slip a few interesting tidbits in a recent official forum post that was quickly deleted. Many things were mentioned, from FF7 to Kingdom Hearts to a new fighting game series.

Let's start with FF7. He stated the remake would not happen for PS3, the tech demo was just that. This is no big surprise, since Square has said that numerous times publicly. However, he did mention FF7 was making some new appearances on consoles. The original game would be available for download via Sony's marketplace in "episodes". These episodes could be transfered to the PSP. He also mentioned that FF7 is being considered for a Nintendo DS port. Square Loves the little handheld that could, and hope to begin work on this port soon.

We aren't done with FF7 just yet... He went on to talk about Square pictures. Apparently a second FF7 film is in the works from Square pictures, with a 2009 target date.

This same topic brought up Kingdom Hearts. Disney is interested in doing a KH film, and has approached Square about doing it. Square Pictures is tied up doing the cutscenes for FFXIII and the new FF7 film, so they declined. However, he reported that Square gave the go ahead to Disney to begin production on the project. Whether Disney's in house animation company or Pixar will make the film is still unclear.

One last thing he talked about was the blending of properties. Since the Square/Enix merge, they have talked about merging FF with the DW/DQ series. Well according to the source, they are doing just that, but in a fighting game series to hit all consoles and both 3D handhelds. The series would feature key characters from most FF games and some characters from the Dragon Warrior series as well. No word on any other SE characters making an appearance, nor when this game would even be available.

I would like to note that Rated-M could not independantly confirm any of this, but it sure seems like hot info, especially since Square removed the post within an hour of it being posted. We will get more info on this story to you as it breaks!
